Imphal, October 16:
Expressing reservation against the policy of posting Grade-II doctors as Chief Medical Officers in the district headquarters in place of those who are being kept on 'in charge', All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has maintained that such a bold step might not be practicable or fruitful considering the present complex situation.
In a representation submitted to the Health Minister, the student body asserted that the local doctors and officer who speak and understand the local dialects and situation are far better in dealing with all kind of situations and people than a relatively outsiders who will mostly likely be attending the office once or twice in a week or a month.
So it would be unfair on the part of the Government to ignore the demands of the tribal people for Specialist doctors in the district headquarters but send Chief Medical Officers that too to replace the local officers who are already there, the representation signed by ATSUM general secretary Thomas Taishya said.
Meanwhile, Kuki Inpi Saikul, Gamkai, while expressing serious concern over the transfer of Dr Janglun Touthang, Medical Officer (MO) in-charge of PHC Saikul and terming it as unfortunate, has sought the intervention of the authorities concerned to stop the transfer of the doctor who has been rendering his selfless services to the local people.
