Imphal-Moreh road to be blocked from Aug 10

Imphal, August 08 2010:
A public meeting held today at Lilong Ushoipokpi resolved to block the Imphal-Moreh section of NH-39 indefinitely effective from 6 am of August next if government fails to translate the demands of the people into action.
The people of the area are demanding an inquiry into the unruly incident on the night of August 3 at the house of one Md Sanayai at Lilong Ushoipokpi in which two police commandos of Thoubal District were injured in the assault by a mob.
Mention may be made that out of two police commandos injured in the fracas, one severely injured succumbed to his injuries in the hospital where he was being given attended medical treatment.

The public meeting held at Ushoipokpi Bazar today discussed the matter thoroughly and resolved to press to translate into action the demands put forward to the government. Among others, the demands include return of the amount of Rs 1,80,000 in cash, allegedly looted by the five police commandos who entered the house of the Md Sanayai, to the family, through the JAC formed in connection with the incident and relief assistances to the people injured in the assault by the police commandos.
Termination of erring police commandos involved in the incident from their services, transfer of Additional SP of Thoubal police to other place are the other demands that the meeting resolved to press for fulfilment to the government.
The meeting also decided to submit memoranda to the Governor and Union Home Minister to draw their attention in fulfiling their demands.
It further resolved to block the NH-39 (Imphal-Moreh section) with effect from 6 am of August 10 if the government fails to translate into work the memorandum submitted to the government by August 9 for indefinite period of time.
Chairperson of the Lilong Nagar Panchayat, Md Manan, Councillor of LND, Md Nasir Khan, President of TIPS, Md Ashalam, general secretary of HERICAUN Md Ishalam and Emam of Ushoipokpi Masjid, Md Sallauddin were the dignitaries in the dais at the public meeting.
