Imphal, August 08 2010:
Every body in the State knows that PDS items could not be brought in adequate quantities of PDS items due to the prolonged economic blockade coupled with the dilapidated condition of NH 39 but it is astonishing that MLA Bijoy Koijam is unaware of this reality, said a press release issued by the Wangkhei Kendra Development Adhoc Committee.
It was ridiculous that Planning Board Deputy Chairman Bijoy Koijam deriding Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Y Erabot at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a bridge at Monkhang Lambi.
In his long years as Minister of different departments, Erabot was never involved or embroiled in any scandal, the committee asserted.
It was irrational for Bijoy Koijam to make erratic statements against the senior Minister who has been standing steadfast against corruption.
It further alleged that Bijoy Koijam was involved in a multi-crore rupees scandal when he was Chairman of MANITRON.
The episode of Minister Erabot bringing back a large convoy of long stranded loaded vehicles along NH 53 amidst blockade with just ten house guards is still fresh in the minds of the people.
Pointing out that PDS items are stored in Govt godowns, not in the Minister's private residence, the committee explained that Bijoy Koijam's constituency not getting PDS items was due to inability of the FCI to bring in the same items on account of the pathetic condition of the highway.
But the scarcity of petroleum products is because of monopolising distribution/sale of these products by some people of Home Dept, the committee alleged.
It would more rational to demand resignation of the Home Minister in place of Minister Erabot, it added.
