Thang-Ta researcher, Young Talent Awardee feted

Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association organized a felicitation function in honor of Ningthoujam Indu of Keirao Bitra Makha Leikai who was recently awarded Ph D in Thang-Ta by Manipur University and G Biseshwor Sharma of Keirao Bitra Awang Leikai who received Young Talent Award presented by Manipur State Kala Akademi at the auditorium of the Association located at Irilbung today.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof P Gunindro, Department of Manipuri, Manipur University observed that there is less number of Ph D holders in Thang-Ta which is one of the oldest traditional art form of the State and stressed on the need for more research on the art to flourish it.
He conceded that the topic of Thang-Ta has been already incorporated in schools curriculum by BSEM which is a welcoming step to preserve the art form which was on the declining stage due to lack of attention.

Asserting that various Thang-Ta organizations in the State should be merged and work together for further consolidation of the art form, he called upon the people to do deep research on the art to preserve it.
Today's function was also attended by Prof P Nabachandra, Dean of School of Humanities, Manipur University; L Joychandra, former Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy and L Upendro, Director of JN Manipur Dance Academy as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honor respectively.
Both G Biseshwor and Ningthoujam Indu were presented with mementos and shawls.
Biseshwor is also an instructor of Huyen Lallong Thang-Ta Association.
