In commemoration of inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India, the Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) will celebrate Manipuri Lon Gi Numit (Manipuri Language Day) on August 20 at Manipur Press Club.
The programme will be graced by Professor Huirem Bihari Singh, convenor of the Sahitya Akademi Manipuri Advisory Board and Raghu Leishangthem, Vice President of Patriotic Writers Forum as chief guest and president respectively.
Prof Chungkham Yashobanta Singh of Department of Linguistics, MU will speak on the topic, "Manipuri Lol Na Classical Language Oinabagi Potchang" (essential ingredients of transforming Manipuri into a classical language) as part of the programme.
In addition, the programme will also witness release of the 9th semestrial edition of Ngaklou on this day, said a press release.
Pacha Meetei Literary Award, Dr Saroj Nalini Literary Award and R Kathing Tangkhul Literary Award 2014 will be presented on the day, added the press release.
