In order to identify and proper placement of the immigrant workers which increase dramatically in the past few years in the state, the Ireibak Kanba Lup will be taking up a special drive to issue I-card to the immigrant workers, stated its secretary, A Mohindro today.
In a press meet held at the Manipur Press Club, Mohindro said that the numbers of migrant workers are increasing dramatically in the past few years that they have outnumbered the indigenous tribes of the state.
Such migrants are dominating the business activities of the state.
Moreover, some of them had settled here owning their own land.
Such situation has made the indigenous people of the state residing in the Imphal city area to live an uncertain and fearful life.
Keeping in view of the situation, the association decided to take up this steps in order to identify why and from where they come here and where are they lodging, he further said.
The first phase of verification will be done in Imphal East and West districts from the first week of next month.
This I-card will include the land owners name and address where they are lodging besides their name and address.
The validity for this I-card will be 18 months.
Verifications in other districts will be done by opening branches in other districts.
Besides from this step, the association will look after the illegal price hikes and selling of intoxicants.
Appealing the people of the state to help them in their step, Mohindro also requested to stop killing non-local migrants which may become threats to the Manipuri lives living in other states of the country.
