Troops of 29 Assam Rifles have gunned down a suspected underground activist in a shoot-out that took place near Li Lam Centre of Thampalok village under Tengnoupal police station of Chandel district.
Quoting Assam Rifles authorities a police source said a gun-fight broke out between the AR troops and UG suspects at around 3.10 pm yesterday during which one unidentified person got killing.
It is informed that one AK series rifle with two magazines and 10 live rounds have been recovered from near the victim, whose body has been brought to RIMS morgue by a police team last evening.
The victim, likely to be in his early 20s, is 5.4 feet in height, attired in a blue and white stripe full-shirt with a olive green cargo-pant.
It also wears a camouflage canvas (boot).
an Assam Rifles statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) said the individual got killed in retaliatory firing as he tried to escape after opening fire at the troops.
The PRO also enlisted four Chinese hand-grenades among the recovered items.
The statement also informed of Assam Rifles troops arresting one member each of the KYKL and UNLF organisations from different places since yesterday.
Identifying the KYKL member arrested at around 1 am today as SS Sgt G Romin Sharma (28) s/o G Sahahul Sharma of Salungpham Huidrom, the PRO release said Romin was rounded up during a search operation conducted by 15 AR troops at Salungpham area.
The UNLF cadre identified as Kh Amuthoi Meitei alias Lamthoi (28) s/o Manglemjao Meitei of Umathel Awang Leikai was reportedly hauled up by troops of 21 Assam Rifles from Umathel area where search operation was conducted on April 16 afternoon.
