Imphal, July 14 2009:
The Delhi High Court verdict on same-sex marriage highly impairs Indian culture religiously and socially, which is detrimental and would act as a catalyst on retardation of wisdom and morals in our country, stated a memorandum submitted to the Union Home minister of India by the All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU).
The AMTU memorandum stated that if the verdict is approved by the government, it would remove the social stigma on homosexuals and lesbians which had been acting as a basic deterrent and corrective measure and lead to tremendous negative impact like incestuous relations and marriages.
The tribal union pointed out that social restrictions and stigmas are the emotional punishments exerted on anti-social indulgence that later on paves way for constitutional laws and acts and that contemporarily social affairs are very much older than constitutional laws.
Hence, on every issue, social impacts should be the foremost concern before framing any constitutional laws, the memorandum said.
Asserting that upholding ones own culture, which is highly respected and treated as one of the highest moral civilization, has been lifting us high in the world, the memorandum cautioned assimilating to other cultures from other parts of the world especially to those of questionable morals amounts to degrading our own unique Indian culture.
The memorandum of AMTU sought for the withdrawal and rejection of the verdict of Delhi High Court that is encouraging and legalizing homosexuals and lesbians to get same-sex marriage, which can lead to the degradation of morals resulting in undesirable and unhealthy relationships and antisocial indulgence.
