Imphal, July 14 2009:
The administration of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was shifted from the Government of Manipur to the Government of India in 2007 .
Though the maintenance of the medical equipments and other related works have also come under the ambit of the Government of India, the State Government can and has been paying attention to such problems in the interest of the people, Health and Family Welfare Minister P Parijat informed the Assembly today.
In response to a call attention motion raised by MLA I Hemochandra Singh, Parijat said that the State Government would be taking care of the infrastructural requirements of the Medical College being set up under the Government and steps have been taken up for opening a mortuary at JN Hospital as well.
The Minister further explained that the main reason for the break down of the freezers/cold storages of RIMS morgue is erratic power supply in Lamphel area.
Repairing of the same is already underway and the RIMS authority has communicated that the repairing work would be completed in the next couple of days, the Minister informed the House.
Raising the call attention motion, MLA I Hemochandra pointed out that breakdown of the freezers/cold storages in the morgue of RIMS has led to decomposition of the bodies and the current trend of forming JACs and refusing to back body is not a good sign.
The MLA also drew the attention of the Minister toward ensuring adequate supply of power and water and providing portable X-ray machine at the morgue of RIMS.
He also urged the Minister for setting up of a mortuary at JN Hospital.
