Footballer Wahengbam Chiranjit of Ghari Awang Leikai, who was brutally assaulted by three youths from neighbouring village of Ghari Makha Leikai on the night of April 8, succumbed to his injuries today.
A footballer of SAI, Chiranjit was brutally assaulted by the three youths at around 11 pm on April 8 .
Chiranjit was immediately rushed to Raj Polyclinic for treatment.
However, as his condition was serious, he was later referred to Shija Hospital and Research Institute.
Unfortunately, he passed away at around 2.20 am today.
A day after committing the crime, the three accused youths identified as Sorokhaibam Ethoi (21), Thongam Benin (20) and Pungsungbam Bishorjit (20), all residents of Ghari Makha Leikai, surrendered to the police.
All three of them are still in the custody of the police.
Meanwhile, following the news of the death of Chiranjit, a joint meeting of the local residents have decided to banish the three youths and their respective family members from the locality for life.
Their houses have also been attacked and destroyed by the infuriated residents on April 9 .
The meeting held at Radha Mandop of Ghari Awang Leikai today further decided that similar action would be initiated against anybody who were found giving shelter to them or try to get them out from jail before completion of their respective sentences.
The meeting also decided to approach the Home Dept and the DGP for doing justice and not to take the body until the these demands are considered.
