In its continued effort to reach out and help masses, the Friends of Hill People, 42 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IG AR (South) and HQ 26 Sector ARprovided solar lights to Nungourok village in Chandel district, a press release from the PRO, HQ IG AR (South) informed.
It said, the lights were installed over a period of time under "Op Samaritan", Military Civic Action project and finally inaugurated, and handed over to the villagers by Brigadier S K Bhanot, Deputy Inspector General, 26 Sector Assam Rifles.
The grandeur of cultural song and dance show organised by the villagers marked the occasion.
The gratitude and humility expressed by the village authority and committee members towards AR for providing solar lights to the village which has no power supply were some of the highlights of the inaugural ceremony.
Brig Bhanot, while addressing the villagers, urged the people to come forward and move progressively towards peace and prosperity, and assured them of full support and cooperation of AR in achieving it.
Later Brig Bhanot gave away gifts to the participants of the cultural programme to encourage the youths and their talent, the press release added.
