Imphal, April 12 2010:
The 3rd Nupi Khunai Meira Paibi Martyrs Memorial Day, marking the incident of Liwa Lambi Maibam Leikai Oinam Leirak on this day that killed three women (meira paibis) with a little girl of three year when a truck rammed at a Meira Shung, was observed today.
The function organised by the Observation Committee of the day was held at Maibam Leikai Bokul Makhong, YMDA Ground.
President of the Irabot Foundation, Thounoujam Iboyaima as chief guest and presided over by the president of Nupi Khunai Meira Paibi Liwa Lambi Bokul Makhong, Wairokpam Mangolsana.
Prof Kh Bimola of political science department of MU, president of AMUCO, KT Rehaman, AMESCO's president L S Guite, president of the Manipur Keithel Phambi Apunba Lup, Mema and social worker Shyam Kamei were the guests of honour of the function.
The observance started with offering of floral tributes to the memorial square of the four victims of the incident, Laiprakpam Ibethoi, Khoisnam Tembi, Sagolsem Ashalata and Khoisnam Yaimabi and the three-year old girl.
Prof Ksh Bimola, speaking on the occasion, observed that the world is shouting for empowerment to women but in the state, women have been empowered and empowering since from the olden times as they are taking main role in the society.
Women had and have been taking part in various issues of the state apart from maintaining family economy of their respective houses.
However, she said women of the state still not aware of the real thing that it is in their hands to elect sincerely politicians in the election and they need to take part in the decision making of the state.
