Imphal, August 17 2014:
Denying any instigation to the students to disrupt the Chief Minister's Independence Day speech, students' wing of Joint Committee on ILP system (JCILPS) has stated that the growing dissatisfaction over the attitude of the government towards the public demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the state compelled the students to shout slogans from the core of their hearts while the Chief Minister was delivering his speech.
During a press meet held at the office of DESAM here today, Students wing convenor M.Angamba said the JCILPS had not instigated the students to shout slogans during the Independence Day celebrations, it was done out of growing discontent over the government's lethargic attitude.
The Students Wing, while strongly condemning the allegations that it prompted the students for the move, lamented that the Government did not initiate any enquiry or investigation on the atrocities committed against the students by the police during the public agitations.
However, the students are forced to participate in various state functions by the government, said Angamba.
Asserting that the Chief Minister in his speech mentioned 'schools, temples and hospitals are untouched during the time of war', the student leader asked if the Government's motive of declaring holidays without any reasons did not affect the education system in Manipur.
It clearly showed that the students were hired for participating in the Independence Day function; he charged and added the government is trying to malign the innocent students in the public view.
Reacting to the Chief Minister's query on the authority of students detaining outsiders without valid identifications, the student leader stated that they were detained for identification as people around gave the information that a number of outsiders had entered the state without identifications.
According to the detained outsiders, they are labourers of Power Grid Corporation and have come to join the works for installing 400 KV line, he disclosed and said that even the Manager of the company did not possess any valid documents for identification.
The State Government has not been able to implement the ILP system in Manipur, even though it took the Assembly resolution two times during 2012-2013, the students' wing alleged, and appealed to those who are doing news analysis in the electronic media to make themselves clear on the issue before saying anything.
