Large tracts of low-lying areas of Lamphelpat, including Naoremthong, Lamboi Khongnangkhong and Samushang are still under flood water as no concrete measures have been initiated by the Departments concerned to drain out excess water.
Infuriated locals informed The Sangai Express that inspite of water pumps being installed near Samushang culvert, large areas continue to be inundated as water from the Nambul river that seeps in through the Samushang sluice gate could not be effectively drained out by the few water pumps installed in the area.

While some families of Samushangand Langol areas have left for safer places there are many families in Lamboi Khongnangkhong areas who have no alternative place to go and take shelter are being compelled to stay in discomfort.
Drawing attention of the IFCD authority to initiate appropriate measures at the earliest, the locals express fear that laxity in taking positive action might endanger many lives as out-break of diseases cannot be ruled out.
During a visit of the flood-affected areas today, it came to light that out of six water pumps installed at Samushang culvert only four were functioning this afternoon.
It was also found that inspite of the sluice gate at Samushang sealed to avoid seepage from the Nambul river, water level at the surrounding areas continue to rise with many houses under water.
Apart from educational institutes located at Lamboi Khongnangkhong area submerged under water and the school authorities compelled to cease academic activities, Government installations which was found inundated included the Employment Exchange office situated along the Langol Games Village road, CRPF complex on the western side of the DC (IW) office, Manipur Zoological Garden and CAU at Iroisemba, and the Chorus Repertory Theatre, Samushang.
