Anganwadi workers and helpers who staged a sit-in-protest today has threatened to close down all Anganwadi centres across the state if their demand for clearance of their six month pending honorarium before the Ningol Chakkouba which falls on October 20 .
Protesting workers and helpers who attempted to march towards the chief minister bungalow was blocked by the police and prevented from meeting with the chief minister.

Speaking at the sit-protest site at Keishampat junction, president of the Anganwadi Workers' and Helpers' Union T Tongkhombi and general secretary N Binodini said even though Union ministry of Woman and Child Welfare has released funds, anganwadi workers, helpers and other functionaries of ICDS are not paid their salaries/honorariums in time for six months together.
Stating that state government authorities failed to clear their salaries since December last, the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, Manipur pressed the state government to look into the matter and clear the pending salaries at the earliest recently but not yet responded.
An amount of Rs 2888.69 lakhs for ICDS (G) including two installments of enhanced honoraria (arrears) was released during the year, 2008-09 .
Similarly, an amount of Rs 761.32 lakh towards as first installment of grants for ICDS (G) for 2009-10 has also been released by the ministry of women and child development.
As the honoraria were not clear out by the state social welfare department the utilization certificates were not submitted to the ministry.
An intimation of the ministry provided to the secretary, department of social welfare in response to a representation of the All Manipur ICDS Supervisors Association indicated the non-submission of the utilization certificate, she observed.
If the honoraria were not clear before the Ningolchakkouba, the union will launch agitation further.
Government should clear the honoraria at one time.
They will not allow clearing part by part, they said.
At the concluding part of the sit-in protest, the workers and helpers took out a rally with a bid to meet with the chief minister.
But they were blocked at Keishampat bridge by the police and forced to back to the protest site and allowed to continue their sit-in protest at the site allowing only some representatives to proceed and meet with the chief minister.
However, they could not meet with the chief minister.
But they were informed that department concern is ready to clear out honorarium for two months which they refused and said that they will not take the honorarium if not clear out for the pending six months.
At the protest site, slogans like "Open a separate directorate for ICDS, release honoraria of the anganwadi workers and helpers, supply material for children timely," etc.
were displayed.
