Imphal, October 16 2009:
Irked by the delay in the construction of barracks, SPOs of Heirok are set to thwart construction if these are not completed by October 31 .
Owing to non-completion of barracks, SPOs have not yet been put into action for their normal duties even though they had been released from Manipur Police Training School, Pangei on December 30 last year after completion of training.
Manipur Police Housing Corporation (MPHC) is engaged in the construction of five SPO barracks at Heirok Kabo Leikai, Heirok Heitupokpi, Heirok Ngarouthel, Heirok Salam Leirak and Heirok Laimayum since early part of this year.
SPOs said that even though MLA M Oken and MPHC Managing Director N Shyamananda assured them to complete the construction by the end of this month, it is not likely as only a few of the barracks would be ready for inauguration within the given time.
If these are not completed by October 31, they would ask the concerned contractors to stop construction, cautioned the disgruntled SPOs adding that they would press the Govt to engage new contractors for speedy completion.
They have not been provided any arms so far, the SPOs said adding that roll calls are currently conducted at 3rd IRB post at Heirok Mayai Leikai at 5:30 am and 4 pm daily.
They are facing inconvenience in conducting roll calls and gathering for their duty as they do not have their own barracks, the SPOs added.
They occasionally take part in operations only in Heirok village conducted under the command of Thoubal SP.
