Imphal, Jul 29:
Taking strong exception against the silence of the State Government over the alleged cold-blooded killing of Paominlen Touthang and Lhunlal Haokip by Imphal West police commandos on July 26, the Kuki Students' Organisation, GHQs has called a 24 hour general strike all over the State with effect from midnight of July 30.A statement issued by KSO further cautioned that it would continue with all sorts of agitation including economic blockade on the National Highways if their demands for termination of the commandos involved in the twin murder and institution of judicial enquiry are not met by August 1.It also mentioned that medical and religious services would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
Further, KSO appealed to all civil organisations and NGOs to extend moral support in condemning such crime against humanity.
On the other hand, it is reported that the bodies of Paominlen Touthang and Lhunlal Haokip would be handed over to Imphal Municipal Council for disposal if the respective families refuse to claim the bodies by 1 pm of July 30.The police IO concerned has procured disposal order from DM today.
Post morterm was conducted on July 27.The alleged KRA activist Md Nazir Hussain alias Thoiba (26) nabbed by Imphal West commandos from North AOC yesterday had identified the bodies of Paominlen and Lhunlal now lying at RIMS mortuary as those of KRA cadres.
Md Nazir was taken to RIMS mortuary by SDPO of Lamphel PS Md Lalil for verification of the deceased duo at noon today.
On the other hand, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has conveyed strong condemnation against the alleged cold-blooded killing of Paominlen and Lhunlal by police commandos.
A statement issued by AMSU HQs said that such rampant violation of human rights is a clear evidence that the repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 from Imphal Municipal area as declared by Chief Minister O Ibobi is only in paper but in the field it is as much in force as before.
Urging the State Government to take up befitting action against the guilty commando personnel, it pledged unstinted cooperation to any movements launched by KSO.
Raising serious concern over the alleged trigger-happy attitude and unethical conduct of security personnel, the Centre For Organisation Research and Education has also the joined the demand for enquiry into the twin killing at Langol Laimanai on July 26.A statement issued by CORE also took strong exception to the refusal of Tamenglong police to keep in their custody Simeon Kabui (22) nabbed by 38 AR.
It alleged that the detention of Simeon Kabui by AR in their custody was a mockery of the State police force which also provided room for AR personnel to harass students.
