Imphal, Jul 29:
In the wake of the Chief Minister's declaration that the State Govt has been considering conversion of Sadar Hills into a revenue district, the Zeliangrong Union has cautioned the Govt to avoid any 'controversial areas' from amalgamation into recently approved DC Office of Jiribam and the proposed DC Office of Kangpokpi.
A statement issued by ZU while hailing the move of the State cabinet to bring about uniform development in both the hills and valley including the proposal to upgrade various administration blocks like Bhamgai range, Khoupum, Nungchang Vaiphei and Willong as SDC Circles, reiterated its long standing demand for incorporation of 64 Zeliangrong villages currently under Henglep, Sadar Hills and Mao West into Tamenglong district.
Mentioning of the cabinet approval for posting of a Deputy Commissioner in Jiribam sub-division and also of the upgrading of Thanlon sub-division to ADC HQs at Pheijol, it said ZU had been demanding realignment of Jiribam into Tamenglong .
Maintaining that ZU would not remain a silent spectator if any part of Zeliangrong areas are amalgamated into the proposed new districts, it cautioned the State Govt to avoid any likely controversial realignment otherwise public agitation or even ethnic conflict may erupt.
