Unsatisfied with the treatment of the fund misappropriation issue in Education (S) Department, the Zeliangrong Youth Front, Movement For Tribal Peoples' Rights Manipur, Sadar Hills Youth Union, All Colleges Tribal Students' Organization, Manipur and Tribal Vigilance had urged the Government to hand over the case to CBI within 10 days so that all the corrupt officials are awarded commensurate punishment.
To chalk out further line of action, a joint of the five organisations has been convened tomorrow, informed the secretary of Tribal Vigilance Forum Johnson.
They have also faxed a memorandum to the Chief Minister today who is now in New Delhi urging for fulfilment of their demands including the CBI probe.
The copies of the memorandum were also sent to Union Human Resource Development Minister and the Governor of Manipur.
Out of Rs 60,91,09,200 earmarked for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project in Manipur, more than 80 percent had been utilized.
But it remains perplexing to the public as to where and how such a huge was spent, noted the memorandum.
It also asserted that the public distribution system under the State Government is a total failure in the hill districts.
It noted that Rs 4,32,21,450 sanctioned for installation of computer sets in 15 schools have been embezzled as all the beneficiary schools are yet to receive any of the computer sets except for the Ukhrul Higher Secondary School.
It further alleged that the share of commodities meant for hill districts under PDS have been sold off in the valley without delivering to the impoverished poor people after procuring contract works for transportation of such commodities in collusion with Ministers and State officials.
The memorandum also demanded construction FCI godowns in the hill districts or to arrange any other feasible alternative to ensure that PDS items are delivered to the poor people.
