Imphal, January 20 2009:
The SPF Cabinet during a meeting held today discussed the monthly pay and allowances that may be offered to teachers of the proposed Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) .
The meeting studied the salaries that may suffice to lure experienced Professors from outside the State.
It also discussed the proposal of medical Professors from Manipur currently based outside the State to pay them monthly salaries and allowances in the same tune they are getting from the institutes they are working at present.
The medical Professors put up the proposal when the State Government contacted them to join the JNIMS.
The Professors also reportedly sought regular appointment should they come back to the State.
The Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi deliberated at length about the pay and allowances that may be offered to Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors.
After discussing the matter minutely, the meeting decided to offer three options for appointment of medical teachers.
The first option is recruitment of retired Professors on regular basis as the State Government rules permit retired employees to work for additional five years and payment of salaries in the scale of RIMS.
The pension amount the Professors are getting will be deducted from the monthly salary.
The second option is appointment of medical professors on contract basis and extension of their service every two years instead of the current practice of service extension every year.
Their pay and allowances would be in the scale of RIMS.
The third option is giving the same amount of pay and allowances the Professors are getting in case they come to JNIMS on deputation from Government or Government funded institutions.
In the first phase, Departments of Biochemistry, Physiology and Anatomy will be opened in JNIMS.
For these three Departments, 13 Professors, 12 Associate Professors and 23 Assistant Professors will be recruited.
In the previous Cabinet meeting, the pay scale of Director was fixed at Rs 90,000 per month while the monthly salaries of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor were fixed at Rs 85,000, Rs 80,000 and Rs 75,000 respectively.
On the other hand, Chief Minister O Ibobi inspected the ongoing infrastructure development work of the JNIMS at JN Hospital complex this morning.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Health Minister Pheiroijam Parijat, Works Minister K Ranjit and other officials.
