Petrol would be henceforth made available to the people through the oil pumps set up specially for the people in rural area under Kisan Seva Kendra (KSK) scheme of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), State Level Co-ordinator of IOC Imphal Division Amarjyoti Bordoloi has stated.
Speaking at the simple function of distributing booklets on saving tips on oil and gas among the people as part of the ongoing observance of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight under the aegis of Petroleum Conservation Research Association at Lamshang Oil Service complex today, Bordoloi informed that oil pumps under the KSK scheme have been set up by IOC in 2004 with the main objective of helping the people living in rural area.
Under the scheme, in all seven oil pumps have been opened in different parts of Manipur.
Earlier only diesel oil was available in these oil pumps.
So in the interest of the people steps have been taken up for supplying petrol as well from these oil pumps, he disclosed.
Informing the gathering that the total requirement of oil in the country is 126 metric tonne although its production is just 35 metric tonne, Bordoloi said that the remaining requirement of 91 metric tonne is being purchase from other countries spending around Rs 195 crores every year.
So people have to cultivate the habit of conserving oil, he added.
Later on, Bordoloi led other officials in distributing the booklets on saving tips of oil and gas to the public.
As part of the observance of the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight which has been ongoing on since January 15, various competitions like painting, essay writing, etc for students have also been conducted on the theme of conservation of oil and gas at different parts of the State.
