Imphal, November 27 2009:
Hanjabam Jaydev @ Gandhi, Councillor of the Imphal Municipal Council, one of the three persons who applied for Congress ticket for the bye-election to 14-Yaiskul Assembly Constituency, resigned from the party today.
The resignation came a day after the AICC had approved the recommendation of the MPCC to field Elangbam Suraj, son of Late sitting MLA, E Kunjeshwor.
Jaydev, an active member of Congress, submitted his resignation paper to MPCC president Gaikhangam today.
His resignation was based on the fact that the party has offered ticket to a newly enrolled person without considering old and active workers, which has defamed the party.
He also charged the Yaiskul Block Congress Committee with recommending a newly enrolled person for ticket.
The act amounts to disrespect of prominent workers of the party, and in protest against the act, he submitted the resignation, Gandhi informed.
As soon as he handed over the resignation paper to Gaikhangam, Jaydev wrote letters to the leaders of BJP and MPP requesting them to support his candidature to the bye-election.
Confirming receipt of a written statement seeking support from Jaydev, BJP president Dr H Borbabu said, Yaiskul Mandal of the party has also furnished a written resolution expressing willingness to extend support to Jaydev.
BJP will discuss the new development with other parties to field a common candidate.
The party will also discuss whether to support him as an independent candidate or put him up as party candidate, Borbabu said.
Leaders of MPP have also acknowledged that Jaydev has sought support from the party in the bye-election.
Dr Nimaichand Luwang said, the party will discuss the matter.
