A sit-in-Protest was held today by students and teachers of Manipur University at the front of the Manipur University main gate against the physical assault of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) President, Ksh Narayan and another member, Ngariyanbam Milan by volunteers of DESAM yesterday in the Students' Home.
Participating in the sit in, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof C Amuba said that it is wide of the mark to lay hands on a students' leader who is working for the welfare of the students' community.
Any matter of dispute can be solved through discussion.
Quarreling and enmity will not bring solution, Prof Amuba said while appealing all concerned not to cause the recurrence of such unwanted incident in the University.
Dean of Students' Welfare of the university, Prof Md.Islamuddin while strongly denouncing the incident, said that problem can be solved through talks over a cup of tea.
He also appealed for the non repetition of such incident in the University campus.
It may be mentioned that the two students' leaders of MU were assaulted yesterday around 1.30pm in the Students' Home located within the university campus by a group of persons.
Meanwhile, as the sit in protest went on at the Main Gate, around seven unknown persons coming in a Maruti Zen tried to abduct two students staying at the Men's Hostel of the University around 1.30pm today.
The two students have been established as Nongmaithem Sanjoy (23) son of Amu of Nachou Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district, a PhD candidate of the university's Education department and Sagolshem Romesh (26) son of Shamu of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, a research scholar of Life Science department.
According to Sanjoy, around seven persons came to the hostel around 1.30pm today and tried to bring him along with them on the pretext of having some discussion which he turned down outright.
Just then another hosteller, Romesh entered the room and they tried to take him too with them.
Sanjoy said that the two students as well as the security personnel of the hostel who intervened were threatened to the extent of shooting them if they did not comply with their insistence.
The unidentified provokers then escaped when students of the hostel began to crowd and drove till the Students' Home.
When the hostellers chased them the unknown persons drove towards the Main Gate where the sit in protest was held.
The hostellers said that they feel insecure in the wake of such incident which happened today.
The security personnel at the Men's Hostel have expressed that they were helpless in such time as they are not armed.
