THE MANIPUR Sahitya Parishad today honoured 25 noted artistes of the state by conferring them with this year's Parishad awards at a glittering function held at the auditorium of JN Dance Akademi where the state Governor, Gurbachan Jagat graced as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Gurbachan Jagat urged the people to take serious note of the development of Manipuri language.
It is a must for the people of the state to take interest in the field.
He observed that considering for job facilities, people of the state take lightly the Manipuri language and give more interest in other language.
But, people should need to take Manipur language as serious as like other language.
Manipuri language books in the libraries are vey few in number.
So, government needs to consider for increase of the books of this kinds, the Governor said.
Literature, history, culture and tradition are the important of life according to the famous writers' observations.
Various great writers like Anganhal, Chaoba and Kamal emerged in the state too after year 1891.They had taken major roles in building up literature movement in the state.
Since the inception of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in 1935, the passage of development in the field of arts and literatures in the state had remarkably enhanced.
People of Manipur should appreciate the Parishad for its contribution in making recognition of the Manipuri language by the Culcutta University and inclusion of the language in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Giving his presidential address to the gathering president, Dr.N Tombi of the Parishad said the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad is one of the pioneers in the north east in the field of literature.
The Parishad founded in 1935 will complete 75 year of its existence next year 2010.The platinum jubilee will be celebrated, he added.
On the occasion, parishad awarded Maibam Nabakishor with Sahitya Bhusan and Haobam Gourahari with Sahitya Sewak.
Five persons were also awarded with Sangeet Bhusan.
They were Akhom Gourabidhu and Nongkhrakpam Rameshchandra in Nath Sangkritan, Tongbram Bira in Pena, Aribam Tombisana in modern song and Ningthemcha Ongbi Jati in Khunung Eshei.
Nath Bhusan was conferred to Lairenlakpam Muhon, Natya Bhusan to Kabrangbam Kullachandra (Kulla), Bachaspatimayum Surjamukhi and Abujam Tamu with NatyaBhusan, Sarangthem Iboton with Bidya Bhusan, Langoljam Shamu with Kala Bhusan and Takhellambam Ibungo with Kala Bhusan (Wari Leeba).
This year Konjengbam Dhan Singh Gold Medal donated by Konjengbam Ningol Binodini to Meihoubam Seityaban, Thounaojam Ibetombi with Thounaojam Kunjakishore gold Medal donated by Th Joykumar), Takhellambam Bhim with Khumanthem Koumacha gold Medal donated by Khumanthem Prakash, Rajkumar Jhalajit and Elangbam Sonamani with Shrimat Parangbam Swami Jogendronath Giri Ningsing award donated by Nongmaithem Jadhu.
Elangbam Joychandra has been honoured with Haobam Ibungoyaima Memorial Cash award (theatre direction) donated by Justice Haobam Kaminikumar and his sons, Dr Nongmaithem Tombi with Maisnam Tombi Critic Award donated by BM Meishnamba, Kshetrimayum Bira with BM Nobel Award donated by MB Meishnamba and Laishram Ibohalmacha and Ningombam Ibobi with Kshetri Achou Cash Award donated by Kshetri Nawang.
The award consist of Rs 15,000 cash each.
