Three cops involved in killing Panchayat Member suspended

Imphal, January 05 2011:
Three police commando personnel involved in the killing of a seating Panchayat Member in Khangabok A/C have been suspended even as villagers blocked the Indo-Myanmar section of NH-39 for two days in protest against the killing.
According to locals, on Friday at 4.15 pm, Ningthoujam Binodkumar alias Inao, seating Member of Khangabok part-I Gram Panchayat of Thoubal district was gunned down by a team of Imphal West Police Commando team in an alleged encounter with militants.
They said Binodkumar was taken away by police commandos from his home and was shot dead in an open place.
Police, however, said that Binodkumar who was used as a local identifier by the police commandos died during a search operation in his locality when militants fired upon the police commandos.
A policeman, A Sadananda Singh, also sustained a bullet injury, they added.
As hundreds of villagers of Khangabok blocked NH 39 on January 1 demanding justice, MLA O Ongbi Landhoni rushed to the area and took stock of the situation.
Following the incident, three personnel of the Imphal West Police Commando Unit were placed under suspension to face a departmental proceeding for their
"grave misconduct" .
The suspension order of SI P Tarunkumar and constable Y Premjit Singh was issued by Imphal West Additional SP (Operation), AK Jhalajit SP in-charge while that of rifleman, Millan of 5th IRB attached with the police commandos was issued by CO, Mamta Wahengbam.
