Imphal, January 05 2011:
Manipur government on Wednesday issued a notice lifting the Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the entire state of Manipur for one year six days after the Centre has relaxed travel restrictions to foreigners in Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order 1958 .
In a bid to woo foreign tourists the Centre on December 31 relaxed, with conditions, travel restrictions for foreigners in Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The Manipur Home Department today stated that Manipur has now been excluded from the Protected Area for a period of one year, subject to certain conditions.
One of the conditions states that citizens of Afghanistan, China and Pakistan and foreign nationals having their origin in these countries would continue to require prior approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs before visiting the state.
Citizens of Myanmar beyond beyond 16 km from the border would continue to require prior approval of MHA.
The third condition says foreigners visiting Manipur should register themselves with the SP (CID/SB), Manipur who has been designated as Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) of the state within 24 hours of their arrival.
The Home Department has asked the SP (CID/SB) to establish entry points at Imphal Airport, Mao gate and Jiribam.
At these check points details in respect of every foreign national entering the state, passport, visa, purpose of visit, duration of visit, date and time of arrival, date and time of departure, place of stay/accommodation, details of local contact including telephone numbers should be recorded, the source added.
