Doctor's properties destroyed as housewife died in delivery

Imphal, January 05 2011:
A housewife died after delivering a baby girl at the residence of Dr Memcha of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai on December 4. Local people of the victim housewife rose against the doctor who is responsible for the death of the victim and destroyed properties of the doctor.
The victim housewife was indentified as Thokchom ongbi Piyari (39), wife of Bijoy of Heinoukhongnembi Thokchom Leikai.
Family members said that they went at the residence of Dr Ch Memcha, Medical Officer, Health Services, bearing registration number 10221 and her hunband Dr Sorokhaibam Bikram at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai on the fateful day.
Patient's party requested both the doctors to admit the expecting mother to Suba Hospital for the delivery.
But the two doctors resisted the proposal and started observation to deliver the baby.
At around 3.07 pm, a baby girl was safely delivered but the doctors kept insisting the patient's party to buy some certain medicines several times.
Suspecting the manner of the doctors, family members went inside the delivery room and found the housewife struggling for her life.
However the doctors refused to rushed her to hospital.
When family members rushed her to RIMS hospital, she was declared brought dead at around 4.50 pm.
A public meeting was held today at Heinoukhongnembi Thokchom Leikai Community Hall with Zilla Parishad, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Gram Panchayat, Ch Sumati and formed a Joint Action Committee against the Unnatural Death of Thokchom Ongbi Piyari Devi.
The JAC charged Dr Ch Memcha and Dr Sorokhaibam Bikram of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai for their irresponsibility and negligence in duty.
The JAC demanded the concern authority to cancel registration issued to both doctors.
It also demanded for video coverage during the post mortem of the dead body.
It further demanded to the state government to take full responsibility of the three children including the newly born infant left by the victim due to the negligence of both doctors.
The JAC submitted a memorandum with resolution copies to the Chief Minister, Health Minister, Director of Health Government of Manipur, SP Imphal West, SDPO Singjamei.
