In a major breakthrough of its ongoing anti-alcohol campaign, a huge consignment of beer numbering 14,440 cans were seized from eight individuals.
The beer cans were seized during a drive undertaken by Thoubal District United Women's Development Orgn and United People's Administrative Council under CADA.
A statement issued by CADA informed that the eight individuals identified as Sairom Pupa (24) of Tekcham Laibung Leikai, Thokchom Sanjit (25), Sairom Goroba of Tekcham, Sairom Sanajaoba of Tekcham, Jiteshwar Sapam, Inao, Thoiba of Irengband and Jiten of Sabal Leikai bought the beer cans from Myanmar at Rs 2,70,000.Acting on a tip-off that the beer bottles were being stored at Irengband, a team of CADA volunteers went there but it was found that the consignment of beer bottles were already shifted to Tekcham.
Subsequently, the huge consignment of the liquor was seized from the home of one Samulailatpam Thambalsana of Tekcham Laibung Leikai.
The seized liquor consignment was consigned to flames at Wabagai super market in presence of public today, informed CADA.
The beer consignment is estimated to be worth Rs 5,05,400 in local market, it said.
It warned the owners of the liquor to give in to CADA at its Wabagai office by May 5 failing which they should ber esponsible of any eventuality.
