Imphal, April 13:
Jiribam district Committee of All Manipur Students' Union accused one Mutum Naobi, presently a resident of DMC campus, of fraudulently trying to withdraw Rs 1.06 crores earmarked for development of schools in the sub-division.
A statement of the student body said Naobi tried to siphon off funds meant for construction of gates, wall fencing and toilets of Jirighat junior High School, Lamba Sorok junior High School and Kasturba Girls' High School.
The modus operandi of Naobi is said to include extracting signature of Jiribam ZEO Th Ketuki Devi on false documents on March 30 with the assertion to the official that if the earmarked fund was not withdrawn before the end of the financial year the same would be returned to New Delhi.
However, when the accused showed up at the treasury Office the next day (March 31) the Treasury Officer declined to acknowledge Naobi's contention due to suspicion consequently culminating in detecting the fraud case on further inquiry, said the release.
Maintaining that AMSU would not tolerate such misadventure, the student body also affirmed it would initiate appropriate action against all found guilty.
