Apart from having damaged many houses, wide spread destruction have been caused to the standing crops in the hailstorm on April 10 at Longjang (Thangal) village and its surrounding area in Tamenglong district as well.
According to a delayed report furnished by Longjang (Thangal) Village Authority, the hailstorm which lasted for almost one hour left everything damaged on its path including houses, standing crops, vegetables, fruits, etc.
AT Thangal itself, the hailstorm damaged around 30 houses.
Thangal is well known for producing commercial fruits like Orange, Lemon, etc and cultivation of the same is the mainstay of the people of the village, but the hailstorm has shattered the hope of the villagers for a good harvest this year beyond redemption, chairman of the village authority Majabut Pamei lamented in a statement.
The village authority chairman has also drawn the attention of the Government for taking up necessary measures to heal the wound and restore the hope of the affected villagers.
While highlighting the plights of the villagers in the aftermath of the hailstorm, Social worker Meidinlung Pamei has also fervently appealed to the authorities concerned for providing necessary relief to the victims of the natural calamity.
