Imphal, June 07 2009:
Burning of effigy of Chief Minister, O Ibobi and staging of protest against the detention of five volunteers of students on the charge of nexus with underground outfits after they were arrested in wake of killing of professor Md Islamuddin.
Womenfolk staged sit-in protest at Nagamapal Khwai Central Market, Kongpal Chanam Leikai, Okram Chuthek, Wangkhei Lounambi Kitnapanung and Uku Mayai Leikai.

Students of the School of Nursing Institute, Porompat and Khabeisoi, Nightingale Nursing Institue, Porompat and Royal School of Nursing, Porompat also staged the protest in their respective institute premises.
At the concluding part of the sit-in protest staged at Kongpal Chanam Leikai, womenfolk burnt down the effigy of the state chief minister, O Ibobi and shouted various slogans demanding release of the five students without any condition.
During the sit-in protest various slogans like, DESAM's campaign on quality education is not against government policy, release the students detained by government, don't convert the student bodies as underground organizations etc were displayed.
They also decried the detention of the students under NSA stating that the Act is not for the students and government by detaining them showed it's irresponsibly attitude.
