Imphal, January 25:
Serving an ultimatum to the concerned authorities for necessary steps on promotion procedure of 'A' and 'B' grade nurses within February 10, the Trained Nurses Association of India, RIMS Hospital unit said its members would launch cease work strike from the next day if their demand are not complied with.
Serving the cease work deadline while interacting with newspersons today the Association president Y Ibetombi also expressed that separate list of 'A' and 'B' grade nurses should be maintained.
Ever since the RIMS authority promoted three 'B' grade nurses of the hospital as 'Nursing Sister' in November 30, 2004 the Association had lodged complaint and made its demand on the issue very clear to the authorities concerned, she recalled while ruing that no positive measure had been adopted till date.
The president further contended as per existing rules elevation of nurses to the status of 'Nursing sister' should be accorded to 'A' grade nurses based on their qualification.
Ibetombi also highlighted that the three 'promoted' nurses were serving as staff nurse since 1979 when the medical institution was known as RMC and their elevation had overlooked more deserving candidates from among 'A' grades.
Moreover, promotion of the three as 'Nursing Sister' is violation of relevant norms as they were under the category of auxiliary nurse/mid wifery which ranks even below the 'B' grade.
Detailing clubbing of the trio to the 'Staff Nurse, Ibetombi said during existence of RMC as general hospital all the ANM and GNM nurses were promoted as 'Staff Nurse' in 1979.In the back drop of such malpractices, the Association for the last three months had been demanding to the RIMS authority to accord promotion based strictly on the line of recruitment rules, maintenance of separate list of 'A' and 'B' grade nurses on seniority basis, establishment of a nursing institution that offer courses in BSc Nursing and other diploma courses, 30 percent leave provision for the nursing staffs and regularisation of nurses enrolled on contract basis, added the president.
