Decrying the incident of assaulting and robbing RIMS students on the night of graduation dinner on September 14, students� union of the premier medical institute has appealed to all people for help and support towards ensuring the security of the students.
In a statement, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Students� Union (RIMSSU) informed that RIMS celebrated its 36th birthday along with a convocation programme for fresh graduates on September 14.After the grand function, graduates were having a graduation dinner when gun shots were heard and two unidentified gunmen charged into the gathering and assaulted the medicos including female students before robbing them of their mobile phones and music player worth approximately Rs 3 lakhs.
The incident has shocked and mentally traumatised the medicos, the statement said, adding that similar incidents of assault and robbing is becoming a common feature in the campus.
Consequently, the students and doctors (internees, house officers and PGs) held a general body meeting and decided to bring to the notice of the public and the organisations concerned about the problem being faced by the them, the statement said, while appealing for help and support of the people towards ensuring the security of the students in the State.
