Consumers' Club, Manipur would be fighting for the rights of the students if the authorities of the school and the van services try to imposed tuition fee and transportation charges for the period the schools remained shut down, its president W Manglem has stated.
Addressing a press conference in the office of the Club located at Governor Road today, Manglem contended that it is illegal to impose tuition fee and transportation charge from the students for the period they did not attend classes.
Stating that education is a commodity being sold to the students in schools, he pointed out that as per the provisions under Consumers Protection Act, 1986, students are consumers who are buying the education.
He also appealed to the students to lodge complaint with the Consumers' Club, if their school authorities or the van drivers force them to pay tuition fee or transportation charges for the period they did not attend classes.
