The Imphal chapter of the Project Janani for promoting awareness and importance of girl child and empowerment of women which is being sponsored by CRPF Wives Welfare Association has been launched in the Group Centre, CRPF, Imphal along with a befitting function in the recreation hall of the Group Centre today.
Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women Dr Ch Jamini Devi and IGP Manipur and Nagaland Sector, CRPF MP Nathenael graced the function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Officers of CRPF, officials and members of the regional CRPF Wives Welfare Association, Imphal; school children of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Langjing; families and CRPF personnel and members of media were also present at the occasion.
The main highlights of the function include taking a pledge by Girl and Boy students of class XI and XII of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Langjing against taking/giving dowry and presenting cheques for Rs 500 per girl child to the girl children born after January 1, 2009 .
The amount is to be used as initial subscription to start a recurring account which would be opened by the CRPF Wives Welfare Association and be run by the parents by depositing Rs 500 per month thereafter till attaining the age of 18 years.
This would effectively support the girl child to become self dependent.
Apart from cultural programmes, a three-day long free health check camp was also inaugurated at the occasion.
To mark the occasion, chief guest and other dignitaries also planted saplings in the name of girl children.
