On the eve of the 55th Wildlife Week 2010, a photo competition participated by more than 50 photographers was held Thursday at Manipur Press Club premises.
It was organized by the Wildlife Wing of the state Forest Department.
The Wildlife Week 2010 observation, which begins tomorrow (October 1), will continue till October 7.The inaugural function of the photo competition was graced as chief guest by Additional Chief Principal Conservator of Forest Department (Central Circle) A Khasiing and presided over by Khogendro Khondam, president of All Manipur Working Journalists Union.
Conservator of Forest (Central Circle), L Muhindro IFS, Environmentalist Dr Kh Samungou, Imphal Free Press Editor Pradip Phanjoubam were jury members of the photo competition, participated by more than 50 photographers.
Results will be declared on the last day of the week long observance, according to the organizers.
In his welcome address Deputy Conservator of Forest, L Joykumar briefly described the importance of the observance of wildlife week and asserted that it aims to spreed awareness to the masses on the need of conservation of wildlife.
Essay and drawing competitions, rallies around in Kaibul Lamjao National Park and Moreh and showcasing a street play "Eikhoi Chatsi" by Loktak Leima Artists' Union in and around KLNP, power point lectures at schools and colleges, radio talks, etc.
are some of the programmes to be conducted during the week long observance, he said.
