A cartoon cum comics exhibition was Jointly organized today by The All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) and World Comics India (WCI) at the Manipur Press club.
On display were some 200 cartoons and 50 comic strips.
The exhibition showcased the works of many young cartoonists from different parts of the country alongside those of local cartoonists like Manas, formerly of the Sun, Langamba of Sanaleibak and Lokesh.
The cartoons on display made telling and incisive comments on many contemporary social and political issues.
The exhibition also gave a glimpse of the possibilities and potential of the medium of comics as a means of spreading awareness about social and developmental issues.
Prior to this, World Comics India (WCI), the co-organizer of this exhibition, also held a 3-day workshop at Imphal on the use of comic strips for issues like water harvesting, women empowerment, health and education, AIDS etc.
This is the second such workshop conducted by WCI in the northeast after Mizoram.
Likewise, the WCI had also organized workshops at Jharkhand, Chattishgarh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka on the same line.
