Imphal, December 02: As in the past the World AIDS Day was observed at Ukhrul Town Hall yesterday with Deputy Commissioner Jugindro Singh and Tangkhul Shanao Long secretary AS Dinah as distinguished invitees.

Attended by representatives of NGOs and village authorities of the district pledges were taken to combat HIV/AIDS diseases, campaign intensively to spread awareness against drug use and abstain from immoral activities besides ensuring effective implementation of Government policies to check HIV/AIDS.

According to a delayed report Thoubal unit of Manipur Voluntary Health Association's Rapid Intervention and Care also observed World AIDS Day at Thoubal bazar yesterday under the global theme of 'Women, Girls and HIV/AIDS'.

An essay competition was organised by Social Volunteers' Association at its Sagolband Yengkhom Leirak office premise yesterday in connection with the observance of World AIDS Day.
