Imphal, February 04:
Coming down heavily on the alleged inaction of the State Government, Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council demanded the State Government to produce and punish the killers of L Govind, Shimthar Tangkhul and L Boy alias Premananda instead of trying to shield the killers.
In a statement, MAPI Council publicity secretary flayed the State Government for its alleged failure to find out the killers despite the public outcry.
It has been more than one month now that the incident of indiscriminate firing by unidentified gunmen took place at North AOC on the night of December 31, 2005 killing L Govind and Shimthar Tangkhul and causing serious injuries to A Langamba, the but the Government has not taken up any step to arrest the killers though the finger of accusation has pointed on its security personnel, the statement lamented.
The attitude of the Government has only shown that it has been trying to shield the killers, and handing over the case to the CBI is only a ploy to cover up the inefficiency of the Government and its machineries, the statement charged.
Reacting to claim of the police commandos that L Boy alias Premananda was killed during encounter, MAPI Council asserted that it is a well-known fact that the police commandos are best at cooking up such stories.
The State Government knew it well that Boy had been picked up by the commandos from Tinsid Road and later done him to death at Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai, the statement said, while cautioning the Government from the wrath of the people.
The Mapi Council further said that it would always extend support to the agitation taken up by the JAC against the brutal killing of L Govind, Simthar Tangkhul and Injuring A Langamba and the JAC against the custodial killing of L Boy (Premananda) for the cause of justice.
