Two persons succumbed to injuries following disputes, another found shot dead while an eight year old boy was crushed by a truck in different mishaps that occured at various places during the last 24 hours.
of the two persons who died due to severe beating one has been named as Thokchom Indrajit (55) of Ayangpalli Road Wangkheirakpam Leikai.
Indrajit passed away at JN Hospital where he was admitted after being beaten up by one RK Bhogendro (37) s/o Shamusana of Nongmeibung Ashangbam Leikai.
Bhogendro, who owns a pan dukan in his own locality alleged Indrajit to have stolen some packets of charcoal a few days back.
Family members informed that Indrajit had gone out for morning walk and heard of being beaten up by Bhogendro at around 4 am.
The assaulter also reportedly forced the victim to swallow a mixer of charcoal and salt.
Indrajit, who was immediately rushed to the hospital passed away at around 8.15 am.
As news spread of the 55 year old man's death an irate mob burnt down the pan dukan nearly two hours later as well as caused destruction to the assaulter's house.
Porompat police station had registered a case on the matter and post mortem conducted at RIMS morgue even though family members refused to take back the body.
A JAC formed in connection with the ghastly incident has been formed with a hurriedly convened meet at Nongmeibung Pung resolving to ascertain on reports of Bhogendro and his other accomplices surrendering to police.
Other decisions adopted at the meeting include demand for adequate compensation to family members of the victim, banishment of the killer/s from the locality, social boycott of those who defy the JAC stand and convening meetings according to situation.
Second similar incident occurred under the same police station yesterday evening in which an alleged assaulter was beaten to death at Moirang Kampu area.
The deceased identified as Sapam Biren (55) of Moirang Kampu is reported to have inflicted severe injury to one Sanasam Kulachandra (60) also from Moirang Kampu after a row broke out during a drinking bout.
Biren's elder brother Binodon (58) was also present when Biren slashed Kulachandra with a sickle.
The incident attracted a crowd who started to rain blows at the brothers resulting in all three elderly persons being hospitalised at JN Hospital.
However, Biren succumbed to injuries at around 6 pm yesterday itself.
The body has also been handed over to family members.
At Polen village which is located about 28 kilometres east of Khoupum police station unidentified gunmen shot dead one R Thonngam Rongmei (40) of Gatou village at around 10 am yesterday.
According to family members, who claimed Thonngam to be an innocent civilian, suspected underground activists waylaid the 40 year while he was travelling on a Maruti Gypsy and fired from close range with an AK series rifle at Polen village.
The victim suffered atleast 5/6 bullet wounds at many parts of the body.
The vehicle which was taken away by the assailants was found abandoned near Leimatak.
Police source conveyed of a case being registered on the matter while adding that officials concerned had been urged to process for deputation of medical personnel to conduct the post mortem.
The eight year old boy identified as Yumlembam Yubaraj s/o Y noren of Lairikyengbam Salan Leirak was playing near entrance gate when the mishap occurred.
