Imphal, April 26:
United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has denounced the attitude of a patrol party of 19 Rajput Regiment who fired indiscriminately towards a group of innocent villagers and causing injury to three persons while they were working in their paddy field at Munpi village in Churachandpur district in the morning of April 20 and later claiming that it happened during a shoot out with militants.
In a strongly-worded statement, senior publicity officer of the Department of Publicity, UNLF Ksh Yoiheiba said such action of the security forces has only convinced the fact that Indian security personnel have no concern for the safety and security of the people, but look upon them as easy targets.
The incident occurred not during the night, but in broad day light and was witnessed by all the people, UNLF said, and claimed the readiness of the security personnel to meet all the medical expense for treating the three victims as the proverbial crocodile tears.
It is an insult to the three injured persons and would rather act like putting salt on their wounds, the statement added.
The statement observed that the incident which occurred even as the Review Committee team on AFSPA was currently in the public hearing would only strengthen the cause of the people who are demanding removal of AFSPA from the State.
UNLF also cautioned the people against the smear campaign being used by the colonialist.
