UNLF admits to casualties

Imphal, April 26: Two MPA cadres of the UNLF were killed in a gun battle with personnel of 9 Rajput Regiment on April 24 at about 9 am at Chaljang village in Chandel district under Chakpikarong police station.

In a statement, the outfit today said that the two cadres were killed when a patrol party of the MPA was ambushed by the security personnel numbering more than 100.The security personnel used claymore mines in the attack, said the statement and added that in the ensuing gun fight two cadres, Sgt Maj Maibam Thaja alias Ranjit of Maibam Chingmang Mamang Leikai and Pte Oinam Hiramba alias Raminkumar of Thanga Oinam Leikai were killed.

The Indian security personnel also suffered casualties, added the statement.

Paying salutes to the departed souls, UNLF said that Sgt Maj Thaja was involved in a number of successful strike against the Indian security force.

The outfit also shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family members.

The statement further said on April 25, MPA cadres attacked a convoy of the 26 Assam Rifles at Sonapur village in Jiribam sub-division.
