SECURITY MEASURE has been tightened up in Imphal with a view to providing safety to the market hoppers on the eve of Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba.
A massive search operation was conducted in Thangal Bazar, Poana Bazar, BT Road including the government offices by the Imphal west dictrict police for safety purpose on Monday.
Speaking to the media persons, the sub-division police officer (SDPO) Imphal West, A.K Jhalajit said that the search operation was conducted following information from some reliable sources about the presence of anti social elements trying to carry out some anti social activities that included extortions from the market places during the festive seasons.
Suspected youths were detained for further checking and verification.
However no arrests have been made so far till the filing of this story.
He further informed that the police are doing their duties in a positive way and they are in progress and asserted that the 'festival of light' would not be affected by the recent blast.
Mention may be made that the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Military Council (MC), responsible for the recent Ragailong blast had termed 'Diwali' as a "foreign festival" and also urged the local people not to endorse the festival.
The outfit further warned not to associate with the security forces personnel and surrendered militants to avoid a fate similar to those civilians killed on October 21 .
Meanwhile, Imphal west district police commandos today apprehended one Atom Sanatomba @ Lairenphaba @ Nanao Meitei (30) of Lairenkabi Awang Leikai, said to be an activist of UNLF.
