Imphal, October 16:
The sudden order of the State Government yesterday to all educational institutions in the State to close their schools for two days on 16 and 17 October in view of the prevailing situation has caught many people here by surprise and disbelief.
Even though the ZEO/CCpur has forwarded the W/T Message for the same, classified "Most Urgent" and issued by PR.
Secy.
(Edn) of the Government to all schools here for strict compliance many schools chose to use their common sense and carry on business as usual.
Some schools however suspended classes mid-way.
Some schools whom this Correspondent contacted expressed utter disbelief that this order should apply to all institutions in the State and not just Imphal.
There is no problem whatsoever in Churachandpur to warrant the blanket closure of schools and such a knee jerk reaction of the Government to certain local incidents is alarmist and unprecedented, to say the least, they pointed out.
The Government ought to grow up.
It is a pity that it could still not differentiate between Imphal and Manipur and believe that whatever happens at Imphal will affect everywhere else, one teacher said.
The closure order of educational institutions which came through the DC/CCpur was distributed to various schools early morning today, evoking disbelief in many quarters.
Law college against holiday: Close on the heels of All Manipur Students' Union castigating the Govt move to close down educational institutions in the State for two days on October 16 and 17, the LMS Law College Students' Union has come out strongly against the Govt's move and termed it as a loss to the academic life of the students community.
In a statement, the Union stated that holiday was declared as the Govt failed to control the situation arising out of the release of the NSCN (IM) leaders.
