A press release of the Hmar People's Convention general headquarters today has demanded the resignation of the Sinlung Hills Development Council chairman Lalmalsawma Darngawn alleging that he had misused Rs 2.20 crore over a period of two and a half years.
According to the release, the Mizoram government had released Rs 65 lakh during 2002-03, Rs 75 lakh in 2003-04, Rs 80 lakh in the revised 2003-04 budget and Rs 83 lakh in 2004-05.These funds, however, never managed to reach the people of the SHDC, the press release said.
The press release said since the demand for the resignation was a decision made by the HPC's central executive council; the Mizoram government should take heed and take expedient necessary action for the resignation of the sitting chairman.
The press release also demanded that the Mizoram government should follow to the letter the 1994 agreement between the government and the HPC so as to enable the SHDC to function as it should.
