Imphal, January 28:
Some hill based organisations have strongly expressed their resentments over the alleged arrest of one Kampu Haokip by the Manipur police few days ago in connection with the IGP T Thangthuam killing.
Movement for Tribal Peoples Rights, Manipur (MTPRM), All Colleges Tribal Students Organisation, Manipur (ACTSOM) and Sardar Hills Youth Union (SHYU) have alleged that Kampu Haokip who is the village chief of Tingkai Khunou, had been arrested by the Manipur police few days ago without reason.
The hill based social organisations stated that Kampu Haokip was innocent and had nothing to do with the IGP T Thangthuam killing.
When the tribal people viewed the IGP killing as something fishy with hidden agenda committed by some elements, the arrest of inno- cent person like Kampu Haokip by the Manipur police was just to cover up the faults of the people who have authority and powerful, stated the three hill based bodies adding, this type of action of the state police was a challenge and a sort of a test to the pulse of the tribals.
The MTPRM, ACTSOM and SHYU suggested that interrogating the truck owner where the militants had used as shelter in killing the IGP and also interrogating the local people of the area where the incident had occurred should be more appropriate from the side of the police instead of arresting an innocent person like Kampu Haokip who had nothing to do with the incident.
