Gale wreaks havoc, houses uprooted

Imphal, May 20: The strong gale that swept the valley areas of the State left a trail of destruction at Thoubal district uprooting twenty houses at Komnao village near the Pumlen lake today.

Of the 20 houses which were blown apart by the strong wind, ten have been completely destroyed said reports reaching here in the evening.

The losses incurred in the destruction of the houses are yet to be worked out in detail.

Some people were also reportedly hurt in the gale, though not seriously.

The Waikhong Junior High School building was also blown away by the strong wind.

Sources said that the gale was the Westerly wind and it travelled at a speed of 46 kms per hour.
