Imphal, September 14: In connection with its 12th annual function, Nata Sangeet Academy and Research Centre, Imphal had organised a two-day Taal Phangnaba (Competition) cum seminar from September 11 to 12.Director of Arts and Culture Dr Kh Sorojini Devi and Padmashree RK Jhalajit Singh were respectively chief guest and president of the inaugural function which was also attended by Padmashree Ksh (O) Thouranishabi Devi and Padmashree Y Gambhini Devi as guests of honour.

On the first day, a competition on six Taals, namely Nobochari Taal, Kokilpriyo Taal, Sunar Boron, Sapta Taal, Chandrabadani and Nityai Chandare was held in which six different group of singers led by L Birjit, Ph Yaima, Th Tomba, M Yaima, N Shanta and L Sobhachandra respective participated.

On second and last day, i.e.a seminar on the Taals was conducted.

L Ibohalmacha Singh presented papers on Nobochari Taal (Ishei) and Kokilpriyo Taal (Ishei) and RK Achousana on Nobochari Taal (Pung) and Kokilpriyo Taal (Pung) in the morning session.

While in the evening session, K Sanaton Singh presented papers on Sunar Boron (Ishei) and Sapta Taal (Ishei), I Ibotombi Singh on Chandrabadani (Ishei) and Nityai Chandare (Ishei), RK Achousana on Sunar Boron (Pung) and Th Ibohal on Sapta Taal (Pung), Chandrabadani (Pung) and Nityai Chandare (Pung).

Prior to the seminar, a lecture cum demonstration on the Taals were also performed by the students of the Academy under the supervision N Shyamchand Singh, who is the director of the Academy.

MA dance: Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof N Bijoy Singh would inaugurate the Department of MA in Manipur Dance during a function tomorrow at 10.30 am.
