State observing Players' Day today

Recognising their talents and honouring their efforts in bringing fames and laurels to Manipur and India in the field of sports, the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports will be observing Players' Day tomorrow at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, Imphal.
Cash incentives for players who won medals in national and international arenas during 2006 to 2009 will be made through e-payment while cash incentives for players who won medals in 2005 will be distributed in tomorrow's function.
DYAS will also felicitate Dronacharya Awardee Boxing Coach L Ibomcha and Dhyan Chand Awardee Judo Coach Anita with cash award of Rs 2 lakhs each during the function recognising their contribution in their respective field to the state.
In 2005 alone, 38 players from Manipur won as many as 899 medals in national and international arenas and cash incentives as many as Rs 49,25,000 will be distributed tomorrow.
Carrom player M Madhov will get the highest amount of Rs 63,000 in individual event.
For the period from 2006 to 2009, Archer Laishram Bombayla will get the highest incentives of Rs 1,84,000.In the next is international fencer E Geeta who will recieve Rs 1,36,000 cash incentives for her performances during the period.
They are followed by Judokan Ch Jina with Rs 1,28,000 cash incentives.
It may be mentioned that Manipur emerged overall team champions in the 5th National Games held in Imphal and won the Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy on February 25, 1999 .
DYAS is observing the day as Players' Day in the state to honour the efforts of players of the state.
Retired Commissioner, State Information Commission Ch Birendra, YAS Commissioner L Lakher and Former President of Manipur Olympic Association E Binoy will graced the function as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
