Chakpa haraoba festival begins

Chakpa Haraoba festival cum seminar has kick-started today at Government Dance College, Palace Compound under the joint aegis of Department of Art and Culture and Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata.
The festival would be held till February 28 .
The first day of the festival showcased dance and religious rites of Andro.
The inaugural function was graced by Pradhan Guru of JN Manipur Dance Academy, RK Achoubasana and Pandit Achouba of Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board, Manipur Ngariyanbam Kerani Singh as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Achoubasana lauded the effort of the Government in organising the festival and seminar where-in experts in the field were provided a platform to share their knowledge and experiences.
Ng Kerani pointed out that though there have been various forms of religious ceremonies like Chakpa, Moirang, etc the underlying theme of every ceremony is the same.
Audiences of different hues like students, teachers and experts were glued to the show of Andro Lai Haraoba dance today.
Andro Lai Haraoba is one among the Chakpa Lai Haraoba.
Andro has two types of ceremony�panam ningthou and poireiromba.
The former is prohibited to be put on display outside Andro.
Hence audiences were enthralled with the poireiromba dance.
Leimaram and Pheiyeng haraoba would be showcased later during the festival.
A seminar would be held on February 28 .
